Remembrance Day

I have a sweet nephew in the navy (he's very tall now and claims to be an adult but I think of him as little guy who I held the day he was born and as he got older was willing to accept hugs but not kisses from his auntie and was hesitant about going to a musical with me but then loved it). 

One of my church babies is joining the reserves (he insists that he's 18 but I still remember that little guy running down the hall at church and posing for pictures with Star Wars characters at the symphony and learning to read with a book about castles and knights).

I wish they were never in the military because I want to keep them safe. I'm proud of them for choosing the military to keep everyone else safe.

Many family members have served over the years in various capacities. Now I have a nephew in the navy and a nephew in the air force. I love them dearly and I'm proud of their choice of a career where they protect their country. I also worry about what might happen and I pray for them often.

For Remembrance Day

First nephew is in the Navy. It didn't really strike me last year on Remembrance Day, but this year I've been thinking about him. I'm proud of him for joining the ranks of men who will defend our land and stand for the weak. He's a good man. And I prayed for him a little bit extra today as I remembered what the price of freedom has always been, and what it might be again, and what it might some day be for me. Second nephew wants to join the Air Force one day, and I will be just as proud of him. And I will pray just as much for him.
