Canada Day Music

Canada Day Rant
Too many people complain about Canada. Our taxes are too high, our government isn't doing what we want, it just isn't as perfect as we'd like it to be.
Of course it isn't perfect. And if you really don't like it, stop complaining and do something. Either work for change or go away. Personally, I plan to stay. I love Canada.
Despite some issues, we do have a better health care system than a lot of places. No one worries that they won't be able to pay when for childbirth.
The education system isn't perfect, but our children have the ability to get an education. Furthermore, there are options. There are different school boards you can try out, and no one will keep you from homeschooling if you don't want to send your children to school.
We need to keep an eye on religious freedoms, but right now we can meet whenever we want to worship God and to study His Word without fear of traitors and the police. We have Bible colleges and Christian schools. We can teach our children the truth without fear.
Granted, winters can be cold, but it gives us bragging rights! Plus...we have a remarkable lack of big, poisonous snakes, spiders, and other creatures.
And Canada is beautiful. It has wide open spaces, oceans, mountains, and amazing forests.
If you don't like Canada, I suggest you try living somewhere where the economy has tanked, the government will jail you (or kill you) for disagreeing with them, any "freedom of religion" is a myth and can get you killed, and your children (or maybe just your daughters) are denied an education. Then maybe you'll appreciate Canada.

Canada Day...The Lighter Side
I believe I left this off the list below of great things about Canada, so I bring you the Arrogant Worms.....
Canada Day
I realized this morning that last Canada Day I was very busy and promised a proper, patriotic Canada Day post at the end of summer when I might be less busy. Research has shown that I never wrote that post. Research has also shown that I requested that someone remind me to write it and nobody did. For that reason alone I'm not feeling guilty about my neglect.
However....it's a year later and I'm a bit more relaxed, so I'll give it a shot.
Canada is a great country. Really, it is. It's big, it has an amazing array of nature: mountains, prairies, amazing forests.... I don't know why anyone would live anywhere else (except maybe to avoid winter). Actually, I like the change of seasons as well; I missed winter when I was in Taiwan. Canada also has a good medical system (yes, yes, not perfect, but what is) and an education system that is open to everyone (and I know that's not perfect either, but it beats out countries where you can't go to school if you're not rich enough or if you're a girl).
Yesterday: I went to work at a job I found on my own, that I can quit if I want to, and that pays enough to live comfortably, and don't feel intimidated by the people in charge. I took public transportation to get there in relative comfort. I stopped to get iced coffee from a coffee shop where they know me by name and are open and friendly. I spoke with parents who want the best for their children and taught children who have multiple opportunities ahead of them and who are growing up in a safe society. After work I went to the grocery store where I am always overwhelmed by the variety and amount of food. I walked home without fear, I entered a safe apartment with reliable electricity and hot running water. I surfed the net without restrictions and watched a video and read whatever I wanted.
Every Sunday I go to church and teach the children about God and sing out with other believers and listen to a pastor preaching soundly from the Word....all without fear of arrest or execution.
Every election I get to vote and no one tries to intimidate me.
I'm a female, and I can work and drive (if I wanted to) and walk the streets in whatever clothes I like and go to school without fear of arrest or persecution.
I know Canada has problems because no country is perfect. It will never be perfect this side of heaven.
Given a choice, though (and here I have a choice to move within the country or move to another country if I want), I think I'll stay.

Canada Day
Today is July 1st, so I am supposed to be posting about Canada and how wonderful it is and how much I love it.
Canada is a wonderful country.
I love Canada.
Good enough? Okay, some details: I love that it's so big, and that there are oceans and mountains and forests and prairies (I think God did a very good job when He made Canada), and that our colours are red and white (I love red).
That's it. I'm very busy with the minor prophets right now. Furthermore, I am in Alberta and Alberta did not become a province and officially join confederation until September 1, 2005. Someone remind me at the end of August, and I'll give you the official, patriotic, I-love-my-country post then.

O Canada
I was over at challies.com and learned some things about our national anthem. When I learned it in French I never actually learned the words or what they mean. I just learned to sing it based on how it sounds. Here are the actual words translated into English:
O Canada! Home of our ancestors,
Your brow is wreathed with glorious garlands!
Just as your arm knows how to wield the sword,
It also knows how to bear the cross;
Your history is an epic
Of the most brilliant feats.
And your valour steeped in faith
Will protect our homes and our rights;
Will protect our homes and our rights.
I really doesn't resemble the English version at all, does it? So, when we mix the two, which has become very popular, we end up with this:
O Canada! Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
Just as your arm knows how to wield the sword,
It also knows how to bear the cross;
Your history is an epic
Of the most brilliant feats.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
It's a bit too militaristic and proud for a Canadian anthem, don't you think?
